New year, new office

Posted on December 13, 2017 at 8:17 am

If you, like many others have opted to work from home, you may find your home office space old and uninspiring. Working from home requires self-discipline, as distractions are more common and prevent you from getting a full day’s work done.

With the new year just around the corner, why not start the new year with an office refurbishment. Create a new design for your office, making working from home easier and more enjoyable. When it comes to designing your new office, try to keep it a minimalistic as possible.

Start by keeping the walls simple and bright, choose a non-distracting colour and avoid patterned wallpapers or feature walls. A light colour will help keep your alert, while a dark colour can make the room appear smaller and more isolated. Keep furniture to a minimum, and position your desk and chair in an angle that creates open feel, such as facing out towards the window.

Remember your office should be a clutter free environment, so filing important documents away in an organised way is recommended. Keep your desk clear of paperwork as this can cause you to lose focus on your daily work goals.

You may want to consider adapting your home to create a large room for your new office. This could be as a home extension, or by knocking a wall down between two smaller rooms to create one larger room. This type of refurbishment to your home will take time and planning, meaning preparing in advance is essential as you will need to find an alternative work place during this refurbishment. Certain structural changes may need planning permission and a professional builder or interior designer to complete the change in a timely manner.

If your office space is large enough, you may want to consider hiring out a desk space to a fellow freelancer. Having an additional worker is a great way to socialise and also help keep you focused on your own workload. Having a variety of workers join you throughout the week can certainly help as lone working can make you feel isolated, and let’s face it, going to the coffee shop daily for a change of scenery doesn’t come cheap.

If you are planning a full refurbishment of your office, you should consider important factors such as power points, phone line access points, and lighting. Adding additional plug outlets and USB outlets is highly recommended, as it reduces the need to use extension leads and adaptors that can cause fires. Phone access points can be handy if you wish to make and receive calls from your landline, making it easier than leaving the office to make calls. Alternatively, you could use wireless handsets that allow you to have your phone in multiple locations away from the main phone line point.

Start your new year with a new office refurbishment, and make working from home a lot easier and less distracting for you. Start planning as soon as possible to get the perfect office for your home.

Adding a runner to your hallway can certainly expand the life of the flooring underneath, as it provides a protective layer. Runners also help to provide extra grip to the flooring, reducing the risk or slipping as the family rush back and forwards through the hallway.

Runners will also bring extra style to your hallway, as they can be found in a variety of designs and patterns, bringing a dull decorated hallway back to life. The great thing about carpet runners is that they can be washed and cleaned easily, perfect for busy households with lots of feet treading on it each day.
